About Crystal

Community Advocate.
Proven Leader.
Champion for Change.

Crystal Black is a lifelong resident who has spent more than two decades advocating for the people of Greensboro — especially in District One. A servant-leader at heart, she has worked across education, government, and grassroots initiatives to deliver real change in youth development, environmental justice, public safety, and equitable city planning. With unmatched experience and a deep understanding of city systems, she’s ready to lead on day one — ensuring no part of Greensboro is left behind.

Crystal brings people together to uplift families, schools, and neighborhoods. From organizing disaster relief after the 2018 Greensboro tornado to securing major private funding for local schools to pushing for policy changes at City Hall, Crystal Black’s track record speaks for itself. She has served on multiple City of Greensboro boards — including Solid Waste and Sustainability Commissions — and was a driving force behind the Ad-Hoc Committee on African American Disparities. She also launched impactful programs like STEM in My City, Take Me Home, and Love Your Block. Crystal is a leader who listens, values every voice, and fights for solutions that meet our community’s needs.
As the next representative for District 1, Crystal will bring the change our community has been waiting for — building a future where every generation enjoys a city that is safe, affordable, livable, equitable, and sustainable. She brings an inclusive perspective that values every voice, offering continuity, leadership, and results — not just promises.
Crystal’s commitment is clear: to listen, amplify community voices, and ensure that every decision made by City Council reflects the true needs and aspirations of District One residents.
