U.S. Representative Mark Walker (R-N.C.) today honored Crystal Black and Gene Blackmon of Greensboro as the Sixth District Community Heroes of the Month for May 2018. The presentation was held at the Peeler Recreation Center, which was used an emergency shelter following the April 15th tornado and storm that hit parts of Guilford and Rockingham counties. Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes, Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, Greensboro Councilwoman Goldie Wells, and Greensboro Councilwoman Sharon Hightower were in attendance.
Each month, Rep. Walker awards a constituent, business, or organization in his district for displaying extraordinary acts of service and for making a difference in the lives around them.
Crystal serves as the Site Coordinator for Communities in Schools at Guilford County Schools. She teamed up with the East Greensboro Community Collective to assist tornado victims and has focused much of her energy over the last five years as an advocate and fundraiser for James B. Dudley High School.
